Wando Park Storage Tank Dedication Set for Wednesday

Tuesday, September 5, 2006

Mount Pleasant Waterworks’ New Facility Will Improve Water Distribution, Pressures

Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) will unveil a new 2.5 million gallon ground storage tank this week that will significantly improve water pressure and distribution in the East Cooper region.

The new facility is located near I-526 along Wando Park Boulevard. Work on the project began in November, 2005 and cost $3.53 million and the facility has been in operation since this past May.

“This tank greatly aids the water supply during times of peak demand,” said Dr. William Golightly Jr., MPW Commission Chairman. “We did not experience any water shortages during these hot summer months thanks to planning and diligence.” Strategically located at the connection of Charleston Water System’s (CWS) 24” water line near the Wando Bridge, the new tank is essential to MPW’s water operations. With the rapid growth at the perimeter of the Town of Mount Pleasant, the tank is one of the capital improvements defined in MPW’s Water Master Plan to assure that MPW will have the capacity, pressure, storage and fire protection necessary to meet the projected growth in our service area.

Project Engineers and Town of Mount Pleasant representatives will join Mount Pleasant Waterworks Commissioners and staff Wednesday September 6, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. to dedicate MPW’s newest facility.
