Work is now underway to add a centerpiece fountain to The Children’s Circle at the Rifle Range Road and Venning Road roundabout. Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) is providing the fountain materials and installation as a focal point to the roundabout. The fountain will be located in the center of the roundabout and will include surrounding landscaping. Construction work is not expected to impede traffic. The project is expected to be completed in time for a planned memorial dedication in mid-September.

The Town of Mount Pleasant commissioned The Children’s Circle in 2003 as a public memorial to local children killed in traffic accidents. Town leaders say the memorial honors the memory of lives lost while it also serves as a reminder of safety and caution to all drivers.

“We are pleased to participate with the Town to include this fountain to The Children’s Circle,” said Dr. William L. Golightly, Jr., MPW Commission Chairman. “As a symbolic gesture, MPW and the Town hope the memorial improvements add emphasis to the importance of safe driving and the precious lives of children.”

The fountain will consist of a circle shaped pool, accented by brick, and include a primary center water stream surrounded by several smaller streams. The fountain’s pool profile is about one-foot above grade level.
