
Two MPW employees received distinguished awards at the South Carolina Environmental Conference
General Manager Clay Duffie and Senior Engineer Tom Milazzo P.E. received awards at the South Carolina Environmental Conference (SCEC) held from March 17th through 21st, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Clay Duffie was presented the Herman F. Wiedeman Memorial Award. This award may be presented annually to someone who has been actively engaged in the water supply profession and has contributed substantially toward achievement and science of the water supply industry. Mr. Duffie is a Civil Engineer graduate of Clemson University and a licensed Environmental Systems Operator. He served as leader of the S. C. Water Pollution Control Association and the S.C. Section of the American Water Works Association. Mr. Duffie Chaired the Legacy of Learning Scholarship endowment which raised over $500,000 for environmental students in South Carolina. He has also helped develop business plans for over 100 water systems in South Carolina.
Tom Milazzo was awarded with the 2007 Water Environment Association of South Carolina’s Engineer of the Year award. He holds an M.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering, and is responsible for implementing MPW’s 10-year, $180 million Capital Improvements Plan, and providing guidance and training to MPW’s junior engineers. Mr. Milazzo has worked at MPW for 10 years and has been active in Water for People, a non-profit that provides water to those in need on a worldwide basis.
For 17 years, the SCEC has been the primary source of technical, operational, managerial, and regulatory information for environmental professionals in South Carolina and beyond. Organized and hosted by the South Carolina Section of the American Water Works Association (SCAWWA) and the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC), the conference has grown year after year into one of the largest environmental events in the Southeast.
