Vehicle Traffic Should Avoid I-526 and Long Point Road

Mount Pleasant, SC, June 6, 2005

Crews Work to Clean a Material Spill
I-526 traffic at the Long Point Road overpass is currently being diverted to avoid a material spill that has made the surface too slippery for vehicles. Travelers are urged to avoid this area as crews work quickly and safely to clean up the spill.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today a contractor spilled about a half yard of bio-solids on I-526 at the Long Point Road overpass. Action Abatement, a bio-solids hauler, hit a bump and the back tailgate opened spilling the material onto the road. Although the material caused no environmental damage, three vehicles were involved in an accident due to the slick material on the roadway (accident details are not yet available).

Mount Pleasant Waterworks crews are coordinating with the Mount Pleasant Police Department to determine the road is safe prior to reopening I-526 for travelers.
